Red Cross conducts health, safety training tomorrow

Red Cross coordinator for health and safety classes Maryann Taman told the Variety that the slots for the classes have been filled but those who are interested to enroll can still be accommodated.

“Red Cross is holding regular classes, at least once a month but we can only accommodate about 15 per class. We also hold classes for companies and private institutions. All they need to do is contact us and we will set a training schedule for a minimum of six participants,” Taman said.

Tomorrow’s classes cover Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, 8 a.m. to 12 noon; and First Aid, 12 noon to 5 p.m.

The Infant & Child CPR class will be held on Aug. 9, Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Taman said the training fee for Adult CPR and First Aid is $30 per person/per course and the training fee for the Infant & Child CPR is $35 per person.

Taman said  both Adult CPR and the Infant and Child CPR classes are filled up because the validity of the certification for both is just one year, while the First Aid certification is good for three years.

“Many individuals would like to regularly update their knowledge on CPR training, and Red Cross would like to update the latest developments to its trainees,” Taman said.

She said the participants will be asked to demonstrate what they have learned during the training and must pass the skills and tests in order to be certified.

Certified participants can join the volunteer program if they want to, but the knowledge they can get from the training will be very useful to them, she said.

Participants are required to get a booklet for $5 each and this is good for all three courses.
