Samoa seals SBC-TV deal

The official handover was held back by a few weeks, to await the passage of legislation that needed the approval of Parliament to repeal the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation Act.

Samoan Finance Minister Niko Lee Hang  signed the documents to officially close the deal on behalf of the government with the new CEO of QBL, Faiesea Matafeo.

Whether the sale will shut the door on the many public reactions that littered the negotiations and the bidding from the start remains to be seen.

The former SBC and now QBL chief executive office was relieved with the formal handover ceremony.

“Right now I don’t feel like jumping up and down, just relieved that it is all over,”  Galumalemana said.

She is, however, seriously mindful of the work that lies ahead for QBL.

“I see what we went through as a wave we succeeded in negotiating,” Galumalemana said. “But what lies ahead for us is a much bigger wave, and we have to survive that or go under.”

Visual transformation from the SBC to the QBL is expected to zoom into full blossom in a few weeks time.

“We have to put in place a lot of set changes where the QBL brand name replaces what we have with the SBC …we should probably be finished by mid-August,” she said.

Galumalemana is promising a lot of new changes that will come into focus under the QBL banner once it is into full stride.
