Confirmed was former Tinian Sen. Manuel P. Villagomez who was appointed by acting Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez on June 27.
Five senators voted in favor of the nomination.
Senate President Pete P. Reyes, R-Saipan, Sens. Joseph M. Mendiola, Covenant-Tinian, and Paterno S. Hocog, R-Rota, were absent during the session.
According to report of the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation, former Senator Villagomez has filed his statement of financial interest with the Public Auditor’s Office, together with his résumé and drug test results.
Hocog, the chairman of the committee, said they have examined Villagomez’ education, credentials, business experiences, and community involvements, which could help improve “the well-being of our islands by serving in this most important capacity.”
The five-member CPA board still has four vacancies.
“We do not want to see CPA not under a board of directors,” Sen. Paul A. Manglona, R-Rota, earlier said. “I think this is really hurting CPA’s stand which contributed to the emergency situation…because there’s really no agency head.”
The governor has issued Executive Order 08-06 to extend the declaration of state of disaster emergency that places CPA under his control.
