Burger declines PUC appointment

In a letter to the Senate, the governor apologizes to the senators for withdrawing Burger’s name as his appointee.

“I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you,” the governor said.

He has yet to nominate another person.

“The governor will be pleased to submit another nomination. We will inform you when another nomination is made,” Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. told the Variety.

The governor appointed Burger on May 7 to serve as a member of PUC, representing Saipan.

Burger is a certified public accountant.

He received a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Guam in May 1983 where he graduated summa cum laude.

Former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. director Laura Manglona is the other nominee to PUC. She was appointed by the governor on May 7 to represent Rota.

Her confirmation is still being evaluated by the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation.

Earlier, Sens. Paul A. Manglona, R-Rota, and Paterno S. Hocog, R-Rota and chairman of the Senate committee on appointments, expressed support for the confirmation of Burger and Manglona.

The current members of PUC are Viola Alepuyo, Kyle Calabrese and  Kimberlyn King-Hinds.

PUC has a five-member board.
