Villagomez nominates 2 to election commission

Appointed were Josepha Barcinas of Rota and Vicente C. Reyes of Tinian

Barcinas is the acting program coordinator of the Office on Aging in Rota. She used to be a teacher, an administrative officer for different CNMI government offices and also briefly worked as procurement and supply specialist for the U.S. Department of Army during the Gulf War.

In a letter, she told Gov. Benigno R. Fitial that she’s grateful for her nomination.

“I am honored and grateful to my appointment as a member of the Commonwealth Election Commission representing the island of Rota,” she said.

There was no information about Reyes who was asked to provide the governor’s office a copy of his resume, statement of financial interests, drug test receipt and its result for submission to the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations.

“If the Senate does not receive copies of these documents, consideration of your appointment could be jeopardized…. The governor and I are confident that you will be an asset to this important board,” Villagomez told Reyes in a letter.

Reyes will serve a four-year term or up to July 21, 2011 if the Senate confirms his appointment.

The law mandates the commission to have nine members — five from Saipan and two each from Rota and Tinian.

Tinian and Rota each has once vacancy.

Frances M. Sablan currently chairs the commission.

The other commissioners are Miranda V. Manglona, Elizabeth DLG. Aldan, Melvin B. Sablan, Jose L. Itibus,  Jesus I. Sablan and Jose P. Kiyoshi.
