18 students from PHS, Bethania High School and George B. Harrison Elementary School participated in the photo workshop sponsored by the APCEIU, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Ministry of Education and Palau Community College.The top three best photo exhibit awards and the special awards were works of the participants from PHS while the fourth best photo exhibit was from the participant from Bethania.The workshop started on July 21 and ended on Friday, July 25 where the students were taught about basic photography and techniques.Instructors were Lee Sung-Man, Lee In-Sung and Lee Jung-Min from APCEIU.The instructors taught the participants of the techniques and basic photography on the first day of the workshop and on the succeeding days, the students were sent on field and were asked to take picture of different subjects.Anna Chung or Hyung Kwa, APCEIU Junior Programme Specialist and Publication and Information Team said that the students were sent to different places in Palau to take pictures of the living things, life, culture and places.Palau was the third country in Asia and Pacific that the UNESCO visited to conduct the photo workshop for young individuals and professionals.The first workshop was held in the Philippines in 2006 followed by Bhutan, India in 2007.Chung said the purpose of the workshop which is free, is to promote world culture, peace and international understanding.“We want to expose the culture of each place through the students art works like in Palau. Through these kids pictures featuring their cultures, the world will know about Palau and people and their traditions,” she said.Chung said the participants’ pictures would be published in their english magazine which is distributed worldwide.Chung said Palau is “beautiful and rich in culture.”
