Department of Public Safety Commissioner Claudio K. Norita, who chairs the association, said that the conference will be hosted by DPS, the Commonwealth Ports Authority and the Department of Corrections.
“Police chiefs, commissioners and directors from various Micronesian law enforcement entities will be arriving to discuss issues concerning the Micronesian Islands,” Norita told the media early this week.
Norita said during the conference, each police chief will be given a specific time to report on the accomplishments and challenges they are facing in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Also participating in the conference are Palau, the Marshall Islands, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia and American Samoa.
Norita said the conference will discuss human trafficking, the U.S. military buildup, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, transnational organized crime, regional drug trends, the regional basic law enforcement training center and future directions in Pacific policing.
“Some of the conference speakers are form from the U.S. Department of Defense, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the South Pacific police, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, and other agencies,” Norita said.
