It is not our fault we were brought into this world in this particular location.
I mean no offense when I say that we are all born on an island which is like a tick to the United States.
We suck the money out, and give nothing much in return. A few occasional good things come out of the island, but not much more.
We are humbly part of the great nation called the United States, and we must try to break the habits of being “ticks” and should instead become more independent and self-reliant.
Because of our horrendously wasteful politicians which we, as a people, have elected and appointed to be in charge of such critical areas in our government, we are on the verge of an economic collapse.
We should learn from our mistakes, and try some other approach.
If we choose someone unqualified for the job (which we already have so many times) we will all be moaning about it later (everybody’s heard of the Better Times-Bitter Times phrase, I’m sure).
Everyone is responsible in some way. We must stop voting for people just because they have or promise to do us a favor in the future.
We all know how that turns out. It’s nice and all that so-and-so has helped the family out of tight spots once or twice, or promises to do so in the future, but there are other ways to return the favor.
Voters, please look into the people you choose.
What are their plans for helping the CNMI?
Will they be any different from the people before?
Do they promise a change, and have a plan for accomplishing this change?
It is our right to find out what goals they have and whether they would be beneficial in such an important area of the CNMI.
And, most importantly, are they familiar with the issues here and qualified for the job?
Can they speak well and listen to what other citizens in the CNMI have to say?
And will they follow through?
Or are they just going to be another favoring relatives/do only enough to get by kind of politician who just can’t wait to find a way to cheat some more money out of the cash-strapped CNMI?
Do not choose someone who would do something as offensive as sue the people who have, are, and will be giving us money for our benefit.
The federal government’s patience can only extend so far.
We will stop acting like little immature children who refuse to acknowledge our mistakes and correct them, and throw a tantrum if any one who is different or who offers a different perspective tries to change our mistakes.
There is always a choice.
There will be no dream politician who can do us all a favor or give us all a job and yet would actually sit down and do his research about how to accomplish a better CNMI.
And how can that even be possible, if he promises to give an unqualified person a job which demands qualifications?
Everyone who has been reading the papers the past few days all know a good example of a politician who is “nice.”
A wonderful man, but sadly not one who could resist getting some money out of the CNMI.
Do we want another one of those?
