Muna: Engine 5 needs more parts, Engine 7 waits for repair crew

Based on CUC’s power generation status report on Aug. 18, engine #5 has been down since April 12.

It needs valves, an injector, a liner and cylinder replacement parts.

Muna said the parts ordered for engine #5 were used for other troubled engines at the plant to keep them online.

“We are in the process of using the parts that we ordered to keep the engines running,” he said. “So we’ve depleted that inventory.”

Engine #5 is one of the larger units at Power Plant 1 that was designed to produce 13 megawatts.

“Engine #7 should be the quickest” to fix, Muna said, adding that CUC has already secured the engine parts for its repair.

However, it will still take 45 to 60 days before the engine can go back online.

CUC, moreover, has yet to award a contract to a bidder, Muna said.

CUC’s report stated that engine #7’s alternator is still being repaired by the Commonwealth Industrial Supply Co.

The engine’s auxiliaries and major parts need mechanical overhaul, CUC said.

Engine #7’s operation has been terminated on July 10 after the cancellation of the contract of DCM Group Inc., one of the major contractors hired by CUC.

Engine #7 is also designed to generate 13 megawatts.

CUC’s power generation report states that Power Plant 1 is generating 15 megawatts from engines 2, 3, and 6 only.
