Teens ready to hit the books

This summer was the longest most teenagers had in a while, but it feels like they still couldn’t muster the time they had for a summer vacation.

“I felt as though that summer has gone so fast. It’s over, and I guess its okay, I’m at school again,” Miguel Brolstrom, a 17 year-old Saipan International School junior said.

Brolstrom had been busy throughout his summer vacation heading to places such as Colorado and New Mexico, while taking an internship at Pacific Telecommunication Inc.

“I visited both my family from Fort Collins, Colorado with my dad and then at Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was great really. We went to New Mexico to visit my grand parents for their 50th anniversary. It was an amazing time there,” he said.

“I got to reunite with my family. My dad and his brothers and sisters presented a slide show of the family back in the past, and my grand parents were sitting in front. They were crying the whole time. It was great and memorable the whole way through. I also had so much fun driving go-carts at 40 miles per hour,” he laughs.

Other teens used the long summer to prepare for college.

“I was preparing for college during my summer. I will be taking liberal arts to broaden my views to choose what major I want to do,” said recent Marianas High School graduate Josie Untalan.

“I mean, my major is important—this is my life right now so I’m getting picky,” she smiled.

Untalan also had time for fun.

“I rode the octopus at the carnival around three times in a row…so, that was quite an accomplishment for me,” she laughs.

One teen challenged herself academically.

“I passed all my summer classes at NMC, which is awesome,” said Alex Davis, a 17 year-old Northern Marianas College student.

“My goal right now is to do well in school and just try hard with my grades. I’m doing my best to get the grades I need to go off island to a great school,” she says.

Brolstrom agrees, saying that “I want to raise my GPA and pass all my AP classes, which are Composition and World History.”
