Power outages not a problem for Oceania team

Coach Elias Rangamar said that since they started the tryout games for the girls 19 years old and under who wants to play in Oceania caging, they so far haven’t used the power in the gym.

The 19 Under girls hold their practice from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.. and even the gym is a little bit dark that time, they have managed to go on with the practice without turning the lights on.

The female draftees usually hold their practice at the Marianas High School where they can use lights.

Rangamar however, said that when the power went out during their practice on Saturday, the girls was still able to finish practicing basic moves in basketball.

The initial lineup for the NMI team includes Jacque Wonenberg, Yvonne Bennet, Noelle Calvo, Lia Rangamar, Nicole Lebria, Dion Diaz, Mercedes Mesa, Blesse Sablan, Tanishia Masga, and Jenequa Benavente.

The alternate players will be Kaylani Lebria and Nikita Hofschneider as alternate players.

These girls will be the first NMI women team that will be competing in the Oceania Youth Tournament.

In their latest practice the girls continued their basketball skill drills—dribbling, passing and shooting.

By next week, they will be starting working on perimeter shots.

Coach Rangamar said most fo the girls haven’t played basketball constantly so they will have to catch up on everything.
