British royal gets Solomon Islands medal

The medal is in recognition for distinguished support and recognition of Solomon Islands as an independent country, SIBC News reports

The Duke is one of three foreigners who were awarded the Star of Solomon Islands Medal to mark the country’s 30th Independence Anniversary last month.

Governor General Sir Nathaniel Waena said the royal visit to the Solomon Islands should give the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester a first-hand look at the progress of the country since their last visit, thirty years ago.

Speaking at the brief ceremony at the Lawson Tama, the governor general said the royal visitation was worthy that after 30 years, the Duke and Duchess together return to be the country’s most distinguished guests from the royal family.
