Miura’s wife opens boutique on Saipan

She flies between Tokyo and Saipan at least once a month to visit her husband, Kazuyoshi Miura, who continues to fight California’s request to extradite him to face murder charges in connection with the death of his second wife 27 years ago in Los Angeles, California.

Mrs. Miura has to retain three veteran attorneys on Saipan and Hollywood lawyer Mark Geragos in California to defend her husband.

Japan’s High Court acquitted Mr. Miura of murder in 2003.

On Feb. 22, 2008, authorities arrested him at the Saipan International Airport en route to Tokyo upon California’s request.

The state wants him to stand trial for the 1981 death of his then 28-year-old wife Kazumi.

The often-teary eyed Mrs. Miura never spoke to the media throughout her husband’s legal ordeal in Saipan.

But this time, she’s facing their crisis with more courage, practicality and even humor.

This month, she is opening a boutique — Fulham Road Saipan at the Paseo de Marianas.

Fulham Road Company is the name of the clothing firm that her husband established.

Mrs. Miura said her store will carry the same high-end clothes, bags, accessories, T-shirts and other products that can be found at her boutiques in Japan.

Mrs. Miura designed some of the clothes, especially the jeans.

Customers who will buy at the store will get a free chain bearing the inscription “Crime Stoppers.”

“This is a present for our customers,” she told Variety as she showed mini-handcuffs symbolizing Miura’s incarceration.

“It’s a joke,” she said.

Her son will manage their store in Saipan as she travels back and forth between here and Japan to oversee their other stores.

She said her husband is doing okay and declined to give other details.

The Los Angeles Superior Court is scheduled to hear Mr. Miura’s motion to quash his arrest warrant on Aug. 15 (Aug. 16 on Saipan).

Mr. Miura’s defense team is expected to insist that he be freed should the judge rule in favor of their motion in L.A.
