After weeks of play in the green, the sufa/golf fundraising association mustered nearly $15,000 in its golf fundraising project to help send a local softball team to the U.S. next week.
The golf tournament aims to raise funds for contingents of “Team Sufa” to represent CNMI in the Labor Day Softball Tournament that will run from August 30 to Sept. 1 in the U.S. west coast.
The Sufa Team will consist of 12 to 13 players who will benefit from the proceeds of the fundraising through the golf tournament.
Based on the record of assistant director of the golf tournament, Jerry Ayuyu, Asterio Tawanply shot 85 gross with 12 handicaps, allowing him to rank first, ahead of Jess Wabol who made 73.2 net.
Wabol shot 72 gross with -1.2 handicap.
Tars Olopai, Ralph Yumul, and Lorraine A. Babauta also shot 73.2 net each with different gross points and handicaps in the games. Olopai grab the 3rd spot, Yumul, the 4th place, and Babauta, the 5th rank.
The following are the winners from 6th place down to 10th: Rudy Sablan (73.4 net); Lucio Aldan (73.4); Joe Sablan (74.8); Ed Manibusan (75.2); and Frank Castro (75.2).
The other winners, in special categories, include: Joe Sablan and Lorraine Babauta (closest to the pin – 7th Hole, male & female divisions); Mr. An (longest drive – 18th Hole).
Three hundred dollars went to the first prize winner; $200 for the second; $100 for the third; and consolation/special prizes for the other winners, golf tournament director, Mario Salas, said.
“We thank the golfers and other people who contributed for the support of the softball team,” he said.
Team Sufa president Delbert Sablan, also expressed appreciation to all volunteers and participants who shared their time to make the fundraising project a reality, saying “without them this event will not be made possible.”
He also thanked the Marianas Variety for covering their fundraising project.
Salas noted there are a total of 30 golfers who participated in the fundraising activity.
