THE Saipan Eagles Lion Club, led by its president Marie Luna Javier, on Wednesday “adopted” the Civic Center Basketball court, which they will maintain and improve as part of Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho’s adopt-a-place program.

SELC is the 12th Lions Club in Saipan, Javier said. “The Lions Club International has over 204 clubs with 1.4 million members, and is the largest club service in the world,” she added.

“Our purpose is to serve collaboratively with the community’s leadership to help people in need,” Javier said.

Mayor Camacho expressed his appreciation to the Lions for their commitment in promoting a healthy lifestyle and beautifying recreational areas.

“We need to curb health issues in our community, and part of the solution is to organize recreation, sports, and promote physical fitness. Sports are also about building good relationships,” Camacho said.

“Let’s continue to work together for our community. Again, thank you for putting your time and effort in…improving and maintaining the basketball court,” the mayor told SELC. “Let’s make use of it…we need to keep promoting a healthy lifestyle for our people.”

For his part, Vice Speaker Joel Camacho said, “On behalf of the 23rd Legislature, we thank you SELC for reaching out and helping…our youth by promoting a healthy lifestyle for the community. We appreciate and support that vision of a healthy community.”
