Calvo says Rota needs trade school

The trade school, he said, is in anticipation of the military buildup on Guam and the military training activities on Tinian.

Rota students who may not want to pursue academic courses can instead enroll in the trade and vocational school, he said.

Calvo said some Rota families  find it expensive to send their children off-island to study and the trade school will be their best option.

The military buildup on Guam, he added, will definitely increase the demand for more skill workers and Rota residents can help meet that demand.

According to Calvo, the trade institute will teach students carpentry, electrical installation, air-conditioning repair and maintenance, plumbing and other skills.

“This will help our people find good paying jobs,” he added.

Calvo said he is inviting non-profit organizations and trade schools from the Philippines and Guam to consider expanding to Rota to help its residents, particularly young students’ avail of skill training and education.
