The power outage at the judicial building on Monday did not stop the court from holding a bail hearing for the three defendants — Sheldon U. Remoket, 21; Roland S. Delos Reyes, 19; and Ken Pangelinan, 22, all from San Vicente.
Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja set the cash bail at $20,000 for each of the defendants. He also ordered them not leave the island or come near sea ports and airports.
Naraja ordered the government to file the information before Sept. 2. The defendants were remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Naraja set the arraignment for the defendants for Sept. 8 at 9 a.m., and the preliminary hearing for Sept. 2.
Remoket previously served a jail sentence and was put on one year probation for an assault and battery case last year.
Detective George F. David, in an affidavit filed in court, said they responded to a call regarding a burglary incident from a residence in Papago south of the Botanical Gardens at about 6:44 p.m. on Aug. 22.
David said the victim discovered her backdoor was pried open and everything in her house was in disarray. The victim lost a 36” LG flat screen television, several chips and a black Nano I-pod system, all valued over $3,000.
David said further investigation disclosed a series of residential burglaries within the Capital Hill, As Gonno, Kagman, Papago and San Vicente area.
He added that based on accounts of eye witnesses, a grayish four-door 2006 Mazda sedan with three passengers was always seen driving away from these areas following the burglary incidents.
David said members of the Criminal Investigation Division and the Thief Apprehension Select Coalition conducted a search for the vehicle bearing license plate number ACK-213 which was last seen parked along Airport Road.
Three detectives approached the vehicle and arrested the three defendants.
David said Pangelinan and Remoket admitted breaking into the victim’s house in Papago, as well as committing other burglaries in other areas.
David said they recovered a Ziplock bag containing what appeared to be a crystal like substance with the stolen items. He, however, said they have not conducted a drug test on the three defendants.
13 burglaries, same pattern
In a press conference yesterday, David said the 13 burglary incidents reported for this month all point to the same suspects based on the pattern of the burglaries.
“The pattern in the series of break-ins and burglaries is similar. Investigations are still going on for the other incidents but we have reason to believe they were perpetrated by the same individuals,” David said.
He added that most of the stolen items are electronics products and other items than can easily be sold on the streets.
David said the theft and burglary incidents usually occurred after lunch time and mid-afternoon when nobody was in the house of their target.
He said some of the stolen items they have recovered had been returned to their owners. “We would like to advise the community to be vigilant and take precaution by securing their houses before going out,” he added.
Also present with David at the press conference were Police Division Commander Capt. Lawrence Camacho and Operations Commander Sgt. Sylvan M. Rangamar.
