Atalig, who is Saipan municipal council member and president of the Association of the CNMI Municipal Councils, is running as an Independent candidate.
He is a member of the NMI Republican Party.
Among his supporters who joined him at the office of the Election Commission yesterday were former Rep. Danny Quitugua, his campaign manager; attorney Raymond Quichocho, his campaign legal counsel; wife Elvira; sister-in-law Cory Atalig; and his brother Jack Atalig.
Their campaign headquarters are located at Felipe Q. Atalig’s residence at Casa de Felipe in Garapan.
His platform is “based on the basic needs of the community and the indigenous people’s right.”
He said he wants to help address the island’s power crisis and problems with water supply.
Atalig’s manpower services used to be a contractor of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
He said he is the “only candidate that can represent the Carolinians and Rota because I’m half Carolinian and I’m from Rota.”
If elected, Atalig said he will seek more federal assistance for public health and nominate Rota students to U.S. service academies.
