“He must step down or President Remengesau must replace him,” Koshiba told reporters.
President Remengesau, prior to the appointment of Kuartei as chief negotiator said that the position is best suited to a person who has no political plans.
Koshiba said Remengesau appointed Kuartei as lone Compact negotiator because he had no political aspirations thus allowing him to focus on the renegotiation.
“That is the president’s policy and Kuartei knows that policy,” Koshiba said.
Koshiba said , Kuartei remaining as Compact negotiator will be against Remengesau’s policy that selected negotiator will not be involved in politics.
“It was the president who said that his appointee should not be involved in politics,” Koshiba said.
