Zarinae Sapong pushes through the starting point of the 100m event during an NMA Track & Field Challenge last year at the Oleai Sports Complex.
ZARINAE Sapong will participate in the world athletics championships — her fourth — with a mission to break her personal best in the 100m event.
From Aug. 19 to 27, the well-experienced NMI athlete will compete against the best of the best in Budapest, Hungary.
She has been to the world athletics championships in 2017, 2019 and 2022. She also saw action in the indoor events in 2016 and 2018, as well as the U20 event in 2016, and the youth event in 2015.
“I’m not only excited to compete on the grand stage, but also to soak in the incredible performances by world-class athletes!” Sapong said.
But “my primary objective is to surpass my previous personal best in the 100m,” she added.
Last year, in the world athletics championships in Oregon, Sapong broke her personal best in the women’s 100m event with a time of 12:98.
“I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve been given to represent the NMI,” she said. “Each one has shaped me as an athlete and as a person. It’s a humbling experience and I look forward to bringing the knowledge I’ve gained from these moments and sharing it with our athletics community back home.”
The women’s 100m event will be held on Sunday, Aug. 20.
