Roof leak triggers s fire at Caesar Sauna

According to Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro, DPS received a call reporting the fire at about 10:24 p.m. on Sept. 23.

She said firefighters arrived at the scene four minutes after the call was received, and brought the blaze under control at about 11:01 p.m.

Ogumoro added that  an employee of the establishment sustained minor burns on her left palm. She was treated at the hospital and released after.

Reports from the Fire Prevention Unit revealed that the fire started in a small room occupied by one of the employees of Caesar Sauna on the second floor of the building.

“According to investigators, the fire  originated from the electrical wire of a stereo system plugged into a wall-mounted receptacle that short-circuited — the wooden base then caught fire,” she said.

There were moderate fire damage in the affected room but almost half of the 2nd floor sustained smoke and water damage as a result of “fire suppression activities.”

“The occupants of the establishment made several attempts to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers but were unsuccessful,” Ogumoro said.

Firefighters have determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.
