Sha Qinlei, an official of the company, yesterday informed the Commonwealth Ports Authority that the flights, which will bring in over 1,700 tourists, are scheduled for Sept. 29 to Oct. 25.
Qinlei said they are interested in making the charter flights to regular flights.
“(We) highly appreciated if [CPA] could consider granting the approval for the charter flights before we obtain the permit for regular flights,” Qinlei told Lee Cabrera in a letter.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial yesterday embraced the good news, citing the CNMI’s need for more air seats.
According to Cabrera said flights are all “early morning flights.”
Shanghai Airlines will fly to Saipan twice a week using a Boeing 767 with a passenger capacity of 220.
The passengers will come from Shanghai , he added.
On Tuesday, Cabrera met with Shanghai Airlines officials to finalize the flight schedules.
“We provided them with some of the information they requested and we will be forwarding them other data — we’re very happy that they will bring in flights here,” Cabrera said.
From Saipan, he added, the Shanghai Airlines passengers may proceed to Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino.
