Sept. is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

During, President Remengesau’s weekly press conference signed presidential proclamation No. 08-09 saying that it is critical that the community members be educated on the substance abuse disorder which can be treatable.

“Treatment and long-term recovery from substance abuse use disorders can offer a renewed outlook on life for those who are addicted and their family members and substance use disorders do not discriminate and affects people from every walks of life in the community,” the proclamation said.Palau also joins the United States in celebrating the National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.The president said that real stories of long-term recovery can inspire others to ask for help and improve their lives, their families and the community.The president reminded the community that substance abuse is treatable and though it is a serious health problem, when treated it can improve the quality of life for the entire community.
