Senate to hold session to tackle supplemental budget bill, defers unified budget bill

Senate President Surangel Whipps said that in today’s session the bill earmarking $973,000 for supplemental budget will be discussed.

The proposed unified budget is in the amount of $28,688,584 for the first six months of Fiscal Year 2009.The supplemental budget will cover incurred expenses resulting to the increase in water and electricity rates.Whipps said the proposed unified budget was deferred to first reading and will be tackled in the Nov. session.He added it is important that the supplemental budget is passed first before a discussion of the unified interim budget proceeds.The supplemental budget contains the provision for a continuing budget authority to cover the remaining months until the installation of the next administration.The original supplemental budget bill authorizes and appropriates an additional $973,000 for the general operations of the government ending Fiscal Year 2008.
