THE water distribution system at Northern Marianas College’s As Terlaje campus must be centralized to save money.
According to NMC’s Director of Administrative Services Alfred Johnson, there are 17 water tanks scattered around the campus.
The tanks not only consume much needed space, they also require constant maintenance to keep water safe for public consumption, he said.
“We have at least 17 water tanks on campus. We’d like to eliminate some to reduce maintenance costs,” Johnson said.
For fiscal year 2003, NMC has allocated $700,000 for its utility bill.
There is a strong possibility that NMC could save a few thousand dollars if its water system is improved, Johnson said.
He hopes the new administration would allocate some money to improve their water system by tapping funds for capital improvement projects.
Johnson is also concerned about the leaky roofs at several buildings that are 50 years old.
Due to funding constraint, Johnson said they cannot afford to fix all the roofs at the same time. This year, Johnson said they are sealing Building O which “leaks a lot.”
