PNG, Solomons discuss illegal border crossings

Solomon Islands and PNG share a common sea border between Bougainville and the Western Solomons and the Tasman Islands and Ontong Java to the north.

Bilateral consultations will also be held on issues such as security, trade and investment.

Solomon Islands’ High Commissioner to PNG, Bernard Bata’anisia has told Radio Australia the talks would focus on the implementation of the countries border agreement.

“The agreement involves the arrangements that the two countries will have on the policing, the management of the border,” he said.

“It allows for who will be part of the joint border committee, which areas will be covered, what are the responsibilities of each of the parties, and the local inhabitants of the border areas,” he added.
