During the awarding ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Saipan on Saturday evening, Wabol said winning the championship for the first time was a huge challenge.
“This is my first victory in the Hyatt Golf Classic, and it was a challenge because one of our team members did not show up,” Wabol said, referring to Tars Olopai.
Wabol’s two other teammates were Bae Yong Man and junior golfer Luis Byun. Wabol’s team came up with a net of 62 and a zero handicap.
Coming in second place was Team 13B which was composed of Paz Younis, Edgar Abalos, James Lee and John Sablan. The team finished with a net of 63.8 and a handicap of 14.4.
Team Mobil (Team 5A) grabbed the third place, finishing with a net of 64.8 and a handicap of 7.2. Team members included George Moses and Techur Newman.
The three teams won hotel accommodation, restaurant meals, massage certificates, and other prizes courtesy of various sponsors.
The tournament brought together over a hundred players who were divided in 26 teams.
This year’s golf matches took on a four-person scramble format with a double peoria handicap system.
Hyatt Regency Saipan general manager Nick Nishikawa who graced the awarding ceremony said participants could look forward to a more colorful tournament and more attractive prizes next year.
He said the proceeds of the tournament will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
