Court orders man who beat girlfriend to post $1,500 bail

Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona also subjected  27-year-old Sidney Capelle Kani to several conditions such as returning to court whenever necessary, surrendering all travel documents, observing a 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, and having no direct or indirect contact with the victim.

The court set the arraignment for Sept. 29  at 9 a.m. and the preliminary hearing for Sept. 25.

Police said Kani assaulted his girlfriend on July 5, 2008.

According to the the affidavit filed in court by Detective Abraham C. Villagomez, they received a report concerning a domestic violence case at a residence in Tanapag on Sept. 17 at around 12:32 midnight.

Responding police officers met the victim who was holding a baby.

The victim told the police that she would like to file a complaint against the defendant for beating her up.

The victim told police that she was sitting with several friends outside their apartment when the defendant arrived and grabbed her head.

She said the defendant started pulling her head toward his private parts in front of her friends.

The victim added that when her friends tried to interfere, the defendant pulled her hair and dragged her to the floor.

When she was able to get up, the victim said she went straight to their room where her baby was crying and closed the door.

Police arrested Kani and transported him to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained.

Chief prosecutor Kevin A. Lynch of the Attorney General’s Office recommended the filing of assault and battery, and disturbing the peace charges against the defendant.
