“Good lighting is essential during surgery and other medical procedures, and this new light is a huge benefit to all of us here at the clinic,” commented shelter veterinarian Dr. Mihnea Muresanu. PAWS also acquired a new large scale so that the weight of animals can be properly ascertained, which is important because an animal’s weight determines drug dosages. PAWS used the balance of the grant from WSPA to obtain other surgical and clinical items, all of which have been turned over to the Animal Shelter for their use. Since PAWS became a member of WSPA last year, WSPA has been extending technical and medical assistance so that PAWS can better support veterinary health programs in Palau. The Koror State Animal Shelter is developing a first class vet clinic, and people are encouraged to bring in their animals for checkups, vaccinations, and surgery. As PAWS has always stressed: “it’s not just about the animals – it’s about keeping your kids and communities safe and healthy by eliminating wild dogs and controlling disease.”
