Without disclosing the company’s identity, Del Rosario Jr. informed the Senate Committee on Resources, Economic Development and Programs that the firm was involved in the construction of the Olympic stadium for the recently held Summer Games in China.
The Marianas Resort Development Corp. project, Del Rosario said, has generated interest among China’s affluent citizens.
“And so there may still be what I call the Third Wave after the investments from South Korea settle down,” Del Rosario said.
MRDC said it plans to construct an 18-hole golf course, a 405-room hotel, and two-story casino facility.
Del Rosario also informed senators that another foreign investor, South Korea’s Neo Goldwings Paradise, will submit plans for a 1,000-room hotel on Tinian.
He said this project includes a 36-hole golf course, a horse racing track, a skating ring and a park.
Del Rosario said this project is expected to generate over 600 jobs on Tinian during and after the construction phase.
“Upon completing [the processing of this investor’s] pertinent documents, DPL will forward them to the Legislature in hopes of securing approval before the year’s end,” Del Rosario said.
Tinian is allowed to have five casinos.
It currently has one casino —Tinian Dynasty, which opened its doors in 1998.
Besides MRDC, the other company that expressed interest in opening a casino on Tinian is Bridge Capital Investment LLC.
