Nick Swaim, technical director of the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, said all participants did a very good job in learning the rudiments of the sport, and that some of the coaches will be recommended for the next level of training.
The participants went through assessment exercises as culminating activity yesterday afternoon, and headed to TSL Building in Garapan to receive their certificate of completion.
Swaim mentioned that a select few shows potential for AFC C License Level program as next step for a higher course.
With the closing of the coaching course yesterday, he also said NMIFA is planning to conduct three to four football training courses every year to further develop skills of and add knowledge to football coaches in CNMI.
Jose Ariston P. Caslib, Asian Football Confederation instructor and football coach from the Philippines, conducted the one week coaching course on Saipan.
Caslib has been conducting football coaching course in Asia for several years now. He has imparted his knowledge and skills to football coaches in countries like Vietnam, Mongolia, North Korea, and other places.
According to him, the course’s objective is to understand the role of coaches, to know the proper way of handling training sessions and dealing with children who play football.
Swaim echoed Caslib’s purpose, saying he hopes to see all the 20 participants to be able to train young people in playing football, and eventually promote the sport in the community.
