Rose Ada-Hocog, the newly appointed special assistant for Programs and Legislative Review Office said the Fitial administration will establish a digital library.
Her office serves as the executive branch’s link to the Legislature and collects documents on laws and other legal matters.
“We’re going to create an executive library and digitalized everything. There you can find the history of a bill and [how lawmakers voted],” she told Variety. “We’re going paperless. This digital library will be very useful to the public, especially to Northern Marianas College students doing research.”
She said creating a comprehensive digital library is a tedious and long process because all documents, including those dating before the creation of the CNMI in 1978, will be scanned.
The digital library will be linked to the executive branch’s new Web site — www.cnmigov.net.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial appointed Ada-Hocog to her new post on Oct. 3.
Prior to her appointment, Ada-Hocog was the administrator of the Labor Department’s Hearing Office.
Now a mother of four, Ada-Hocog previously worked as a reporter for the islands’ two cable networks Saipan Cable and KMCV.
She also worked as research assistant for the governor’s special legal counsel Howard P. Willens and as spokeswoman for the Department of Public Safety.
“My recent appointment as the special assistant for the Office of Programs and Legislative Review will be a new journey for me. I have occupied various positions in the CNMI government and various organizations where I dealt with the drafting and implementing of laws, policies, and regulations. I believe that these experiences will help me in this new role,” she said.
Nace Soalablai, a civil service employee who has served under different administrations, will remain the deputy special assistant.
According to Ada-Hocog, “Since I have been assigned to this office, I have been looking to Nace Soalablai, the longest member of this office’s team for advice and guidance. Although I have new ideas to bring to the table, I will continue to look to Nace, as well as Michelle Iginoef, for their inputs and recommendations for they are as valuable if not more. We are a team.”
