Bruce Megarr, CUC deputy director for water and wastewater, yesterday said they are now waiting for the Division of Environmental Quality’s clearance.
The project includes fixing the concrete tank and the installation of a hatch cover, a new valve and pipes.
CUC water division manager Mariano Iglecias said after the issuance of DEQ’s clearance they can immediately pressurize the area 24 hours a day.
Since July, when the repair program started, CUC implemented water rationing from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Capital Hill, Iglecias said, adding that at least 30 households and all tenants of Vestcor Village were affected.
One of CUC clients on Capitol Hills reported to Variety on Friday that they had no water supply for months.
Iglecias said they will fully pressurize the area as soon as they can get the DEQ clearance.
The repair project was funded by the federal government.
In Koblerville, Iglecias said one of the water pumps broke down on Saturday which caused an irregular water service supply in the area.
The water division field personnel immediately to address the problem, and the water connection is now back to normal, he said.
Last week, the Kannat Tabla water tank project was completed and is now serving Kannat Tabla, Finasisu, Chalan Kiya and Chalan Laulau.
Megarr said residents in these areas were not accustomed to high water pressure because they had been getting erratic pressure for many years before the new water tank was constructed.
When the areas were fully pressurized, he said, at least four leaking pipes were reported due to the high pressure, but the problem was already fixed.
