Bureau of Public Health Director Stevenson Kuartei, during President Tommy Remengesau’s press conference on Wednesday, briefed the community about the dengue fever situation in Palau.
Kuartei said there were 44 cases of dengue in September. The national government has spearheaded cleanup efforts that targeted possible places where mosquitoes could breed.Remengesau said the cleanup effort was a contributing factor to the decreased number of dengue cases.Symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, joint pain, headache and vomiting.Kuartei earlier warned that cases of dengue fever had reached epidemic levels, and that a reduced budget might make it difficult to combat the debilitating and potentially deadly disease. But the national government said combating dengue fever remains a top priority.
