Eledui: Running for Palau’s natural heritage

His running has sparked rumors that Koror State will lose one of its premiere conservationists and that the protection of Koror’s natural resources will decrease – if not diminish.

In a phone interview with Eledui, he said that Koror State is in good hands. Moreover, he said “the people I work with today are capable and committed individuals who know that environmental conservation is not a one person effort, but a community effort.”Eledui said the success of Koror State conservation efforts, to this day, has always been a community effort.  Many people have influenced and contributed to the protection of not just Koror’s natural resources but other states as well.“I have worked with other states to develop their natural resources management plans,” he said. “When I worked with the other states, I did not turn my back on Koror; instead, Koror had supported and allowed me to share my skills, knowledge, and expertise with other states.”Eledui said that is extremely grateful for the people he works with on a day-to-day basis.“I have learned so much from them,” he said. “I applaud their commitment to conservation work and I hope they have learned something from me.”Eledui said that no matter the outcome of the election, he will make every effort to provide assistance to, not only Koror State, but all of the state of Palau to promote the protection and conservation of the environment and the resources in it.Eledui has a long history of conservation and environmental protection work.  He is one of the founding members of the Palau Conservation Society (PCS); and has actively supported PCS since 1994.“I am committed to finding all means and possibilities to protect and conserve our natural resources,” Eledui said. “The land and the ocean – and every living thing and resources in them – are our natural heritage, and we, as a nation, cannot possible live without them.”Eledui said that he is not running away from Koror State to the Senate, but rather, “I am in the running for the all the people of Palau to find means to protect their natural heritage – the environment and the resources in it.”
