Saipan Mayor’s Office personnel undergo roadside safety training

SAIPAN Mayor’s Office personnel who help maintain the cleanliness of the island participated in a roadside safety training session conducted by the Department of Public Safety’s Highway Patrol on Wednesday.

“It is important for the staff of the Saipan Mayor’s Office to know the safety protocols when working on the road to prevent accidents,” DPS Capt. Juan Mendiola said in an interview.

The training was facilitated by DPS Sgt. Michael Langdon who, among other things, advised the trainees to write down the plate numbers of reckless drivers.

“Be aware of the speed limit. There are different speed limits on different roads across the island,” he said.

Mendiola, for his part, said the mayor’s staff should also report to DPS incidences of reckless driving.

“It may be a DUI situation,” he added.

The trainees also learned how to properly use and position their brush cutters to avoid throwing stones.

“There is a potential for these small stones to hit open car windows, and there may be children inside the vehicles,” Mendiola said.
