Saipan Centennial Lions Club Basketball League kicks off 2nd season

A total of 19 teams are participating in the Open and Masters divisions of the Saipan Centennial Basketball League, season two.

THE Saipan Centennial Lions Club or SCLC held the opening ceremony for season two of its basketball league at the Civic Center basketball court on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

This year, the basketball league, which was launched in Feb. 2022, has 11 teams in the Open Division: J.T.M. Saipan, Changming Market, The Game, Check Point International, Ole Aces, Susan’s Catering, Puerto Rico Bento, Socho Team, Kagman 2 Ballers, Ali’I and Lakay Team. 

The Masters Division has eight teams:  Double A Corporation, A’s Car Air-Conditioning, Ole Aces, Blue Eagle, Blue Hauz Team, JSN Construction, RNV Construction and Pepoy’s Café & Restaurant.

The  opening ceremony was highlighted by a parade of the team players and their muses. The Best Muse and Best Uniform for each division were selected by the following judges:  Immediate Past District Governor Lion Atoy Banting, Regional Chair Lion Eden Mercado,  Zone 1 Chair Lion Alice Barbo and Zone 2 Chair Lion Marcelo Masilungan.

The Best Muse and Best Uniform awards in the Open Division went to Puerto Rico Bento. In the Masters Division, RNV Construction received the Best in Uniform Award while JSN received the Best Muse Award.

The SCLC Basketball League’s proceeds will help finance the Lions’ global causes and community basketball court rehabilitation project which aims to encourage the youth and adults to participate in outdoor activities.
