HOPWOOD Middle School inducted 40 new members of the prestigious National Junior Honor Society on Saturday, Feb. 25 in the school cafeteria in Chalan Piao.

The National Junior Honor Society is an international student organization that consists of chapters in middle schools. NJHS elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. It is estimated that more than one million students participate in NJHS activities worldwide.

NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, U.S. territories, and around the world.

The induction’s inspirational guest speaker began his teaching career in 2009 at Hopwood Middle School where he was chosen to be the recipient of the prestigious Teacher of the Year award in 2012.

Felix Rabauliman, moreover, is a true musical genius who performed on the YouTube channel, “Dandan Marianas,” and established the famous and award-winning Hopwood Dance and Music Production.

According to NJHS Hopwood Middle School chapter advisor Esco Anne Ulloa, the inductees shared their excitement about applying the five pillars of the society to their school experience and life in general.

A newly inducted sixth grader. Doreane Tudela said: “My inspiration in joining NJHS is to make my parents proud and to build connections both in school and the community through service and citizenship.”

Jheams Sagana, NJHS president, led the induction ceremony. He said: “Being president of the National Junior Honor Society has shaped me into a better individual. Many qualities are essential to become a president. This position taught me many things, including the value of leadership, dedication, and management. Being president has enabled me to express my ideas and opinions while improving my communication skills. I learned that no matter how many challenges I encounter, I can work through and around them. I work hard to establish myself as a role model and a shining example to those around me.”

Hopwood Middle School Principal Victorino Borja gave the welcoming remarks while Vice Principal Karen Manuel led the inductees in their pledge membership.

NJHS Faculty Council members and advisors, HMS teachers, staff, and parents also graced the induction ceremony.
