CUC: CHCC’s power has not been disconnected

THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp. said it was aware “of false information being circulated about the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation’s power being disconnected today, Thursday, April 20, 2023.”

But CUC said CHCC’s power has not been disconnected, “and any information to the contrary is completely false.”

A CHCC staff member told Variety on Thursday that they had power the whole day, and did not have any power interruption.

In a statement issued by acting CUC Executive Director Dallas M. Peavey Jr., the public utility “clarifies that there is an ongoing issue regarding [a] non-compliant…CHCC…solar photovoltaics (pv) system. Consequently, CUC issued a 30-day disconnection notice to CHCC today, Thursday, to address the violation with its solar power pv system, which needs to meet the net metering interconnection requirements standards and safety regulations.”

CUC said it is “urging the public to rely only on official information released by the corporation and to refrain from spreading unconfirmed information. CUC understands the importance of factual information and is committed to providing updates as the situation progresses,” CUC stated.

The CUC board of directors will hold a meeting at 9 a.m. today in the CUC conference room to discuss, among other topics, the CHCC and CNMI government payment agreement for CHCC’s utility services.

On Wednesday, CUC issued a disconnection notice to CHCC for failure to pay the outstanding balance of $53.6 million as of March 31, 2023.

CUC gave CHCC 14 days to pay.
