THE first ever Run Saipan Trinity, a three-day running event, will be held from Saturday to Monday. Participating runners will take on three separate races in different locations on island.
Run Saipan Trinity will begin with a Marpi 10k that starts at the Kensington Hotel bus stop at 6 a.m. followed by a 5k at Mt. Tapochao at 5 p.m. and ending on Monday with a 5k along the Oleai Beach Road path at 6 a.m.
Packets are available for pick up at Café Mango Six on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“This is a limited entry event,” Run Saipan President Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said. “We want only the most daring runners, so for the inaugural year we are capping it at 50. We are currently at 46 so there are only four slots left.”

Running festival
According to Dela Cruz, Dr. Ron Snyder inspired the event.
Snyder, the Saipan International School headmaster and Northern Marianas Athletics coach, “wanted a three-day event like the one his daughter ran which was the Isle of Man Easter Running Festival,” Dela Cruz said. “We literally replicated that race. So, this is the official Run Saipan Running Festival of the Marianas.”
Dela Cruz said he and Snyder will definitely complete in all three races. “It’s our dream race,” he added.
He also expects the participation of active runners Ann Bang, Pastor Matthew Furan, Simon Necesito, Jessica Ortizo and Rosemarie Chisato.
Of the three races, Dela Cruz said the most challenging will be day three. “Who will…show up and complete [another race] after ‘mangling’ their legs with a 10k up north and a 5k all incline?” he asked in jest.
Thank you
Run Saipan would like to thank its volunteers, along with Northern Marianas Athletics, DTE Endurance, ONETime Sports, the Marianas Visitors Authority, the Department of Public Safety and, most especially, Dr. Ron Snyder, for putting this special running festival together.
“His work never goes unnoticed,” Dela Cruz said. “If it were not for him, people won’t have the cool medals and shirts they rock now from Run Saipan. People usually have to wait an entire year to get a souvenir from MVA’s Saipan Marathon for running a race, but thanks to the hard work of Dr. Ron, we have so many…now. The amount of effort and passion he pours into designing and making our products is absolutely priceless,” Dela Cruz added.
