The SSHS mixed team members steer their way to victory in the high school 500m event of the PSS Interscholastic Outrigger Race Series at Kilili Beach on Saturday.

SAIPAN Southern High School ruled the 500m short distance race and clinched first place in two of the three categories in the high school division of the PSS Interscholastic Outrigger Race Series on Saturday at Kilili Beach.
SSHS shined the brightest in the boys and mixed 500m events.
In the boys 500m, the SSHS Manta Rays truly showed their power as a team as they cleared the preliminary round with a time of 02:52.220 to earn five points.
Marianas High School crossed the finish in second place at 02:56.270 for three points while Kagman High School came in third with a time of 03:21.620 for one point.
In the finals, SSHS finished way ahead of the competition, clocking 02:55.660 to earn another five points.
The MHS Dolphins came in second with a time of 03:15.210 for three points while the KHS Ayuyus finished third with a time of 03:31.880 for one point.
Overall, SSHS is the top team in the boys 500m with 10 points, followed by MHS with six and KHS with two.
In the mixed 500m event, the SSHS boys and girls also performed strongly.
They ruled the preliminary round with ease, clocking 03:08.410 to claim first place and garner five points. KHS was second with a time of 03:27.080 for three points followed by MHS at 03:28.330 for one point.
The final round was a tough battle with SSHS emerging triumphant, clocking 03:18.400 to edge MHS which settled for second place with a time of 03:20.170 while KHS was third with a time of 03:30.480.
SSHS is the overall leader in the mixed 500m with a total of 10 points while MHS and KHS share four points each.
In the girls 500m event, SSHS and MHS shared the spotlight.
In the preliminary round, MHS reigned supreme as they crossed the finish line first with a time of 03:28.350 for five points while SSHS came in second at 03:29.570 for three points and KHS was third with a time of 03:43.690 for one point.
In the finals, SSHS tasted redemption, bagging first place at 03:25.760 to earn five points while MHS settled for second place with a time of 03:38.090 for three points and KHS was third at 03:51.140 for one point.
Overall, SSHS and MHS share first place in the girls 500m with eight points each while KHS is third with two points.
