SAIPAN Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho is encouraging community members to report any illegal or suspicious activities in their workplace or neighborhood.
“If you see something, say something,” he added.
As the mayor’s office “ramps up” its Adopt-a-Place program, he is concerned with the illegal dumping of garbage on island.
“Not only are they an eyesore but they also depict the attitude of community members,” Camacho said, referring to illegal dumpsites.
“It is a matter of being disciplined,” he added. “If you see someone littering or throwing garbage, say something! Tell that person that it is wrong to do that or tell the authorities.”
He said adults should remember that their actions will set an example for the younger generation.
“If you see garbage at the beach, pick it up,” the mayor added.
He said the principle of “say something when you see something” also applies to the workplace.
“If you see co-workers cheating on their work hours, correct them. Otherwise report it,” Camacho said.
He added that government employees should be working and not wasting taxpayers’ money by doing nothing or going on unnecessary leave when there are issues that need to be addressed.
“The mayor’s office wants to promote a safe village, a safe community and a safe island,” Camacho said. “Discipline starts with oneself. We should be on this together.”
