Kamakazee’s re-opens with new menu

FAMOUS for its poke nachos and deer risotto, Kamakazee’s is bound to slay your taste buds once again.

The restaurant, located across from the Mobil station on Beach Road in Garapan, re-opened Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, after a few months of renovation.

Its owner Reeka Cruz said the restaurant is now ready to offer a new dining experience to its customers with a revamped menu.

“I have handpicked the favorite dishes of our loyal customers and added some new items,” she added.

Kamakazee’s offers a variety of dishes including burgers, wraps, rice bowls and vegan options.

Some of their mouthwatering burgers are the smash burger with double smashed patties, the Portobello burger, the chipotle burger, the bacon cheeseburger, the inferno burger, and the Kamakazee burger.

Cruz said their rice bowls are also very popular. She recommends their fajita bowl and Mongolian bowl.

With more than 10 years of culinary experience, Cruz said she personally creates the dishes that are on the menu.

She said she gets her ideas from the places she has visited.

“I have lived in Hawaii before and I remember loving a poke dish made with chips. I decided to make my own version with more poke bits and more nachos. The community just loves it,” she said.

Cruz said the name Kamakazee’s was inspired by her childhood nickname.

“When I was a kid I was a risk taker and I loved challenges. Our family members told me that I was such a ‘kamakazee,’ ” she said.

Perfect timing

Kamakazee’s opened in Sept. 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic Cruz said the timing was perfect. “The business did well during our first year. Although there were a few struggles, we made it through,” she added.

According to Cruz, Kamikazee’s is the fulfillment of her long-time dream.

“I have always loved cooking. I have a huge family and I cook for everyone since I was a child. It’s my passion,” she said. “I cook for my family. I cook for my kids. This is what I love to do.”

Cruz said she is also blessed to be one of the beneficiaries of the Building Optimism, Opportunities, and Stability Together or BOOST program.

“The program is for businesses. I am grateful to have received support that helped me revitalize Kamakazee’s,” she added.

She said she used the BOOST funds to pay rent, bills, the staff’s salaries and the renovation of the restaurant’s roof and ceiling.

Now that it has re-opened Kamakazee’s is also available for catering services. “We tailor them according to the needs of the celebrants,” Cruz said.
