AFTER a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Hyatt Regency Saipan brought back spectacular fireworks display on New Year’s Eve.
“It’s a tradition — we have been doing this for the longest time to celebrate the new year,” Hyatt Marketing and Communications Manager Bea O’Malley said.
Prior to the pandemic, the Hyatt was always packed on New Year’s Eve as guests and local residents gathered at the hotel to greet the new year with family members and friends.
On Saturday, the New Year’s Eve celebration at the Hyatt featured the High Tide band and DJ Big Ken Camacho as guests waited for the clock to strike midnight and welcome 2023.
“Hyatt is always at the forefront of making things happen not only for guests but also for the community,” O’Malley said.
Since visitors and members of the island community had not seen an “awesome” fireworks display for the last two years, Hyatt’s staff and management took a great deal of time and effort to prepare something that would bring back “that wow factor” and give joy and happiness to everyone, O’Malley said.
Just like the rest of the people on island, Hyatt is excited to greet the new year, she added.
“It’s all about revival, it’s all about rebuilding in 2023,” O’Malley said.
For Valentina Rivera of the CNMI Women’s Association, this year is about working for yourself to become an entrepreneur, for example. She said she really had fun during New Year’s Eve at the Hyatt.
Martial arts instructor Cuki Alvarez, who was at the Hyatt with his family, said it was great to end 2022 with a big bang and see a lot of people also having a great time.
Brad Ruszala, the event’s master of ceremonies, said it was “great to have everybody here having a great time with a great band, a great DJ, and winning great [raffle] prizes.”
