Kagman, Koblerville, Dandan secure spots in basketball championships

KAGMAN, Koblerville and Dandan advanced to the championship round of their respective divisions in the 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League after emerging victorious in the semifinal games on Sunday and Monday at the TSL Sports Complex.

In the U13 boys division, Kagman defeated Oleai, 48-44.

The first half was filled with back-and-forth action as Kagman focused on a long-range game led by Liam Wilson who scored 11 consecutive points, including three three-pointers.

But Oleai equalized thanks to Raffy Cai who led the assault with 10 points while team mates Peyton Basa and Theo and Daniel Joab also delivered much needed buckets.

Kagman continued to apply pressure from afar with Dany Defang and James Matsumoto scoring from beyond the arc as their team  grasped the lead, 29-25.

In the second half, Oleai managed to slow down Kagman’s offensive output, but remained behind.

Meanwhile, Kagman’s Wilson stayed consistent and contributed nine more points en route to victory, 48-44.

Tanapag also secured their spot in the finals by gunning down Finasisu, 51-44.

Dandan vs Kagman

In the women’s division, Dandan slipped past Kagman, 36-32.

Teamwork was the key for Dandan as each player had a role to play and excelled at it to establish control early in the opening half.

Kagman’s Kaia Travilla gave it her all, but it wasn’t enough and they soon fell behind.

Kagman tried a more defense-oriented approach in the second half to successfully reduce their opponent’s production while Mikki Kautz and Travilla stepped up with high percentage buckets to gradually close the gap.

However, Antonette Labausa managed to keep Dandan afloat with two crucial triples while team mates Kina Rangamar and Tazha Deleon Guerrero delivered additional buckets to bag the win, 36-32, and secure a spot in the finals. They will face Garapan which defeated San Vicente, 43-40.

Koblerville vs Dandan

In the U18 boys division, Koblerville outplayed Dandan, 28-19, to set up a final match against Gualo Rai which advanced to the championship round after besting Tanapag, 67-62.
