Frontliners undergo trauma informed-care training

THE CNMI Blue Ribbon Initiative Consortium, through the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation-Community Guidance Center, held its 11th meeting, which focused on trauma informed-care training at Kensington Hotel on Oct. 27.

“We have our frontliners here today from the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, the Department of Corrections, and the Domestic Violence Task Force,” said CGC Director Kevin Villagomez.

“We are training [them] on trauma informed-care services so they will be able to identify those people in the community [who may have] issues [involving] someone…violent. There is a lot of traumas related to that.”

Villagomez said the training helped the frontliners to be “more sensitive to the needs of the people they are helping while leading them to the services that can be provided through CHCC.”

He said, “Every quarter, we bring experts from off-island or from…here to bring us up to speed with the knowledge that will allow us to help the community in time of need.”

The goal of the consortium is “to use an innovative, community-based approach to support the prevention, treatment, and recovery from substance use disorders.”
