WHILE he was cleaning the parking area of the Grotto in Marpi on Tuesday last week, Marcelino “Max” Aguon said he unearthed World War II unexploded ordnance.
Max Aguon, Parks and Recreation staffer, points to the unexploded World War II ordnance he found at the Grotto.
Aguon said his boss, Ray Sablan of Parks and Recreation, who was also at the site at the time, called the authorities to request for the retrieval of the ordnance.
On Wednesday, a Department of Fire and Emergency Services specialist removed the ordnance for proper disposal.
Aguon is reminding community members who may find ordnance to call 911 immediately. Do not touch or disturb it, he said, referring to the ordnance.
One of World War II’s major battles in the Pacific was fought on Saipan in June-July 1944.
