MARIANAS High School on Friday initiated “shelter-in-place” procedures and conducted a classroom-by-classroom search in light of a social post Thursday stating that a student would bring a gun to school.
MHS also issued a “rumor control” notice and said that there was no “legitimate evidence of the threat.” But to ensure the safety of the students, staff, and school community, MHS said it initiated a search Friday morning.
MHS Principal Jonathan Aguon told reporters they were “conducting a sweep” in each classroom and searching the bags of each student.
Aguon said they would issue a statement as soon as the sweep was completed.
MHS also said that it had consulted with the Department of Public Safety, and that “there will [be an] increased law enforcement presence on campus.”
DPS spokesman Dre Pangelinan said no arrest had been made as of Friday morning.
This is a developing story.
A police officer in his vehicle is seen near the entrance to Marianas High School on Friday morning, Nov. 18, 2022.
