Zhi Yun Li tops VISA Marianas Golf Classic

ZHI Yun Li added another trophy to his collection after finishing first in the men’s low gross category of the VISA Marianas Golf Classic at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort east course on Saturday.

Li played well throughout the day, scoring 2-under par on the front nine. Consistency was the key as he shot three birdies on holes #2, #5, and #8 and made one bogey for a gross score of 34.

On the back nine, Li recorded a total of five birdies and just one bogey to end the tournament with a gross total of 68 to secure the top spot and the $300 cash prize. 

In second place was Michael Gatewood with a gross total of 72. He took home a $200 cash prize.

 Marco Peter finished third by virtue of the scorecard playoff  with a gross total of 73. He received a $100 cash prize.

In the women’s low gross, Flor Jones took the title with a gross total of 86 while Tina Goodwin settled for second place with a gross total of 88. Jones received a $300 cash prize while Goodwin took home $200.

Joining the spotlight was Joseph Muna who led the men’s double Peoria with a net score of 69.4 to win $300 cash.

Ricky Delgado Jr. notched a net score of 69.6 to secure second place and $200 while Dean Pangelinan came in third with a net score of 69.6 which earned him $100.

In the women’ double Peoria, Shirley Sablan was victorious with a net score of 80 while Michelle Sablan came in second with a net score of 82. Shirley won $300 while Michelle received $200.

In the company low gross  category, IT&E, IP&E and the Bank of Guam were the top teams while in the corporate challenge, Charles Peters and Ricky Delgado Jr. shared a gross score of 78. Peters, however, took the no. 1 spot via the scorecard playoff.

The VISA Marianas Golf Classic was a fundraising tournament for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
