THE Department of Public Lands supports the U.S. Postal Service’s request for a 15-year extension of the land lease contract for the property USPS is occupying in Chalan Kanoa.
In his letter to USPS Contracting Officer Diana Alvarado, DPL Secretary Sixto Igisomar said his department’s compliance division, “after much review and in consultation” with its planning division, confirmed that USPS’s building is constructed within its leasehold perimeter premises in Chalan Kanoa.
Igisomar told Alvarado that USPS “is in compliance with the terms and conditions of the lease.”
In addition, he said DPL supports USPS’s request for a 15-year lease extension, but added that it is subject to the approval of the Legislature as required by the CNMI Constitution.
Igisomar likewise informed Alvarado that DPL’s real estate division will prepare a draft extension agreement and a first amendment to the lease agreement, and will contact USPS when the document is ready for review.
